The Magic of Presence

This past weekend, I spent time with some women I met in an online training program earlier this year. Though most of us had yet to meet in person until this weekend, we have all felt so connected since we've met. Like spiritual sisters. πŸ¦„

The weekend felt like magic or the closest thing to magic I have ever experienced. And while we did do some witchy ceremonies and rituals (obvs), upon reflection I realized that a big part of this magical feeling was how present I was for those 72 hours. Fully, deeply, joyfully present with these women and our endless conversations, laughter, and storytelling.

Paying Attention

Outside of checking in with my husband once or twice, I wasn't worried about next week, those deadlines I have coming up, or even how the activities later in that day were going to pan out. I was just fully paying attention, with kindness and curiosity to what was in front of me.

I think this is a really hard state to achieve in our world these days, which is why it felt so magical. Yes, I tap into it during my meditation, but with all that goes on in my life each day, it can be hard to sustain for long periods of time. But this weekend was a welcome reminder that in the present moment I often feel whole and balanced. Leaving yesterday in the past and tomorrow in the future, I feel peaceful with what is in front of me just in this moment, just for this day.

Recommit to Presence

I want to recommit to the power of presence in my everyday life, especially as the world opens back up and things get busier. One of my friends this weekend shared a definition she has learned of magic (seems to originate from Dion Fortune):

"Magic is the ability to change consciousness at will."

Mindfulness as Magic

So in those terms, mindfulness and the ability to become present in any moment IS magic. Life can be full of magic if we let it, and I am ready to show up for all of the magic life has in-store today.

So let’s all go practice some magic today, shall we?
