Life is Complicated. Meditation Doesn't Have to Be.

In prepping for a corporate intro to mindfulness event today (shared about it via my stories on IG, it was a good one 😍), I was reminded of how helpful it is to go back to basics. It's why I love working with meditation newcomers because it always helps me simplify. Life can be so complicated and confusing, but meditation doesn't have to be. And furthermore, I don't think it should be!

Simple, Not Easy.

Mediation is simple. It's not easy, but it is simple. We take time out of our busy lives to become fully present, to notice simply what is here in this one moment as a training ground to bring this presence into the rest of our lives. Why be present? Because the more present we are in our lives, the happier we are. Studies have proven that a wandering mind is an unhappy mind. When our minds wander it's almost always to a negative or at least neutral thought of the past or future. But if we can be present with only what is here in THIS moment (even if we don't like it!) we will be happier.

Give it a Try

I have found this to be so true in my life. It may take time to develop, but I can viscerally feel the difference when I use mindfulness to go from a moment of rumination to noticing what's here in this moment. You can do it right now! Let go of whatever you are thinking about now (even as you read this email I'm sure other things are floating around your awareness), and bring your attention to the bottoms of your feet on the ground. What can you notice about this connection of your feet to the earth below you? Does it feel solid, sturdy, cold, hot, hard, soft? Just notice.

That's it. You just practiced mindfulness meditation!

With more practice, you will start to reap the benefits of coming into the present moment (Less stress/anxiety, better focus/concentration, improved relationships/wellbeing). It has felt like unlocking some secret magic ingredient in life, and I think everyone deserves the magic!
