How Do Reiki + Mindfulness Work Together?
I found Mindfulness and Reiki healing at separate times in my life, but I fell in love with them in a similar way. As if remembering a forgotten friend, I felt called to share these friends with my community. At first, I wondered how I could work with these seemingly different modalities in the same session, but over time I've come to see they are so complementary. I may even venture to say that they are inherent in each other.
Recently I came across this quote on healing from bodyworker and writer Susan Raffo:
Healing is about taking the time to notice what gets in the way of feeling connected to your life, your community, and your sense of possibility. Healing, at its core, is about slowing down so we can better listen, to ourselves, and to each other.
A Conversation
Reiki healing, with its precepts and principles of living that practitioners learn while training, has Mindfulness woven into its essence. Because the healing work, as I understand and practice it, is a conversation. A conversation with the body, the mind, the spirit of whoever is receiving. We slow down to listen to ourselves and to what is blocking the vitality we desire in our lives. We then use the healing energy along with active practices of the Reiki principles/precepts to welcome that vitality back to us.
Learning How to Slow Down
And the truth is I had NO framework for slowing down and listening to myself before I found Mindfulness. In fact, I avoided it pretty dramatically. 😊 So the years of training and meditation provided me the tools I needed to dive into my healing. I feel I needed both resources to go deep and do the work to embody the changes I wanted to see in my life.
This understanding naturally progressed to the weaving of mindfulness, meditation, and healing that I offer in my 1:1 and group sessions. Even if you come to my work interested in only one modality, I invite you to stay curious about what you might learn from the intersection of both. It's a fun journey.
